CAPS EXPERIENCES

There are six CAPS experiences that have been developed through continued collaboration between education and industry to provide the best programming to prepare all students for their purpose. All CAPS experiences, except the CNA strand, are partnered with Public Speaking, providing each student-associate with highly sought after college credit.


  • CF CAPS Business Solutions experience is designed to meet the needs of students interested in utilizing business strategies to solve problems, develop products, and/or start and run a business. This unique CF CAPS experience will equip students with the skills necessary to be successful in business related fields. The immersive experience empowers students to frame opportunities using business tools for solving problems, product development, modeling, and agile project management that assist in developing a mindset to turn ideas into action.

  • Learn more about careers often associated with advanced training or unique careers such as, but not limited to, engineering/advanced manufacturing, technology, law, public sector, meteorologist, pilot, mortician, acting etc. Emphasis will be placed on identifying interests, abilities, values, and exploring options for careers. This immersive experience allows students to learn the durable skills necessary to be successful in their next steps after high school while pursuing a path of purpose.

  • The CAPS Education experience is for students who are interested in working with kids in some capacity as a future career, especially those who are interested in exploring teacher education as a profession. Students-associates will be participating in field experiences, mentorships, and networking throughout the Cedar Valley. This immersive experience allows students to explore the teaching profession, develop insight and knowledge of the field of K-12 education and beyond while experiencing firsthand what a profession working with kids is like. This program also focuses on professional skills, project management skills and servant leadership. Successful completion of this course will also earn associate's 4 college credits from Hawkeye Community College and credits toward UNI’s TeacherEducation program.

  • A unique industrial technology program, CAPS style. Embedded within the construction trades/manufacturing industry, and partnering with Habitat for Humanity, with other local construction partners, to make a real impact in the community.

  • Exploration of Medical and Health Services focuses on the foundations of patient care, medical terminology, ethics and public speaking skills. This approach equips student-associates with the tools to explore healthcare professions and excel in effective communication, fostering a strong foundation for future success in the medical field.

  • Student-associates earn their Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) certificate through a special partnership with Western Home Communities and Hawkeye Community College. This semester-long course provides training on professional skills, critical thinking, and problem solving while serving nursing home residents and collaborating with other medical professionals.
