SUBMIT A PROJECT

When thinking about what a project is, the possibilities are endless. A good project is anything that allows for creative freedom and problem solving.

Consider your list of things to accomplish. We suggest focusing on projects that are 8, 9, or 10 on your list that may not be of the highest priority for your business, but still represent real challenges and opportunities for innovation.

You get a team on your project to provide a solution to a lingering issue and access to future talent. Out student-associates get the experience and connections to the community. It’s a win-win!

More details, including business partner commitments, listed below in our Project Toolkit section.

PROJECT TOOLKIT

    • Free! No financial requirement

    • One hour meeting every two weeks

    • Responsive to emails

    • Approx. 10 hr commitment for the semester

    • Student-associates will have 40-50 hrs in a semester to complete the project

As one of our vested partners put it, “We love engaging with CAPS because we feel like we get to be the grandparent, not the parent.”

  • CAPS Project: Kryton Metal Step Stool

A model of workforce development, this project started out with a redesign of a step stool that lead to employment with the partner company. Student-associates utilized CAD to design and prototype an improved step stool that was successfully sold to a major company. Beyond the immediate success of the project, Kryton recognized the talent and potential of one of the CAPS associates. This associate, after completing a degree in mechanical engineering, returned to Kryton, bringing their expertise back to the community.

CAPS Project: Accel Crawfish Crawl Event

Held at the River Place Plaza in downtown Cedar Falls, this event featured a 5k run/walk, live band performance, and a traditional crawfish boil. Student-associates handled marketing, budgeting, logistics, volunteer coordination, and food service planning. They optimized the layout for food service, registration, and participant flow, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all, gaining valuable event planning and management experience.

  • I have used CAPS to support various projects for my organization, community projects, and personal entrepreneurial pursuits. I have been thoroughly impressed by the students support and expertise. The professionalism, and innovative perspective of these students has been invaluable. They have significantly contributed to our success by assisting with website projects, conducting needs assessments, and providing project planning. Engaging with CAPS has been a valuable experience, and I highly recommend their program to other organizations looking to make a meaningful impact.
